Megan is a 25 year-old Portuguese-American with dreams of exploring the world. During the week she works in a crime laboratory by giving a helping hand to local law enforcement. You can find her thrifting around the country, waving ‘hello’ to the roadside animals, and taking a dip in any body of water she can find.

Our adventure story

2020

Like many others during the pandemic, we were seeking any form of escape. The #VanLife social media movement and other similar nomadic lifestyles had reached their peak and started getting plastered all over our feeds. We took the bite. Had we ever gone camping together? No. Did we have a converted vehicle to travel in? Also no. Days of dreaming about living a life outdoors turned into impatience.

We packed up our Ford Escape SUV with some makeshift camping supplies and soon enough, we caught the adventure-bug. Weekends away from work turned into epic escapes in our car. We’ve been road trippin’ ever since!

In November 2021, we found the deal of a lifetime on Facebook Marketplace. A beautiful, busted up, water-logged shuttle bus with a cheap price tag to match. We took her home within a few minutes of meeting her.

We understood the work lined up for us, but it was a challenge we were excited to tackle together.

Eat. Sleep. Build a bus. Repeat. We spent our free weekends away from obligations crafting our new adventure-mobile.

Days were long and our patience was often thin, but with lots of love she became a home!

You’ll find us road trippin’ across the U.S. in our rigs.

 FAQs

  • We started traveling in late 2020 in our Ford Escape. Our screen name is a play on words since our car-model is an Escape and we are based in the United States.

  • It’s cheap and you can start doing it now! We decided to use our SUV to start traveling because it was what we had at our disposal. It didn’t make sense then to purchase a travel trailer, a van or anything else when we’d only be traveling a couple months (if that) out of the year. If you’re considering living nomadically, we highly recommend giving it a test run in your regular vehicle first!

  • We were given an amazing opportunity to purchase one for cheap and we figured we’d give it a try! As much as we love to travel in our SUV, we hope this bigger space will allow us to be on the road for longer periods of time. Someday we hope the Bus will serve us as a home, a remote work studio or whatever else we desire it to be. We also get to refine our building skills with this new challenge!
